Overseeing a quarter of a billion acres in the US is the job of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), a division of US Department of the Interior. These lands include over two hundred wilderness areas, 20+ national monuments, and over 600 other protected areas. The majority of this public land is in a dozen western states, with only a small portion in the East.
