Voltaire, whose real name was François-Marie Arouet, was a French philosophical writer who advocated freedom of thought during the mid-1700’s. His most famous work is Candide, a thoughtful allegorical novel of a man facing the harsh realities of life. Candide has even been hailed as one of the top 100 most influential books of all time.
