World Heritage Sites
1000+ precious and protected places around the world!
UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) has a famous and important branch called the World Heritage Convention, which “seeks to encourage the identification, protection, and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.”
In other words, cultural achievements like the pyramids of Egypt and natural wonders like Victoria Falls really belong to ALL of humankind, not just the nation in whose territory the site is found.
Here’s a map of the current UNESCO World Heritage Sites — click it to visit the interactive map in which you can explore individual sites.
The World Heritage List website is fun to explore! With over one thousand sites currently protected, I guarantee you will find many that you’ve never even heard of before. What a fun site to enhance studies of world geography and history! 😀
